What Actually Happens During One of My Bike Fits

Most people think a bike fit is someone eyeballing your saddle height and nudging your seat back an inch. I get it — for a long time, that's mostly what it was. But comfort, power, and speed on a bike are governed by physics and biomechanics, not opinion. So every session in my studio runs on the same principle: if I can't measure it, I'm not going to guess it.

Here's exactly what happens when you sit down with me, and the tools I use to make sure the position you leave with is backed by data, not just by feel.

The Session, Step by Step

Every fit follows the same sequence. The order matters — each step builds on the one before it.

01

The Conversation

Before anything is measured, I want to know your riding history, your goals, where it hurts, and what "better" would actually mean for you — more comfort on long days, more watts in a TT, or simply riding pain-free again.

02

Static Assessment

Flexibility, leg length, foot structure, and current bike measurements give me a starting reference point. It's the baseline — never the final answer.

03

Dynamic Motion Capture

You get on the bike and pedal. Markerless AI video analysis reads your joint angles in real time, frame by frame, while I make live adjustments and watch the numbers respond — no dots taped to your knees, no guesswork about what a change actually did to your position.

Pressure Mapping

Your saddle is swapped for a wireless pressure-sensing cover that maps exactly where and how hard you're loading it, in real time, as you ride. Hot spots, left-right asymmetry, and pelvic instability stop being things you feel and become things we can both see on screen.

Aero Validation

For riders chasing speed — road racers, triathletes, time trialists — I build a digital twin of you from a few photos and measurements, then run it through CFD simulation to test different positions and helmet choices virtually. What used to take a full day and a real wind tunnel now takes minutes, so we can compare options on the spot instead of guessing which one is faster.

The Instruments Behind the Numbers

Three technologies, three different questions. Together, they cover comfort, biomechanics, and aerodynamics — the full picture.

Velometrik

SmartCover BT

A wireless saddle-pressure mapping system built from hundreds of individual sensors. It reads your seated pressure distribution live, so saddle choice, setback, and tilt get tuned to what your body is actually doing — not to a size chart.

KineticLab

Markerless Motion Analysis

AI-driven video analysis that tracks your joint angles and movement pattern in real time from ordinary video — no markers, no lab suit. Every adjustment I make on the bike is checked instantly against the numbers.

AiRO

Virtual Wind Tunnel

An AI-powered CFD platform that builds a digital "aero twin" of you and tests it in simulated airflow. It brings wind-tunnel-grade aerodynamic insight into a normal fitting session, without the wind tunnel price tag or the travel.

A fit isn't finished until the data agrees with the body. The screen can tell me a position is faster or more balanced — but it still has to be one you can hold for four hours, not just four minutes.

What You Leave With

Every fit ends with a report you can actually use — not just a bike that feels different.

  • Your before-and-after pressure maps and joint-angle data
  • A written summary of every adjustment made, and why
  • Aerodynamic comparisons between the positions tested (where relevant)
  • Clear next steps — parts, follow-up, or nothing at all
